Abstract Retaining a waterproof coal pillar is the most effective water conservation method for roadway close to gob, and determining reasonable width of has been common problem among mining scholars considerably long time. Based on 15208 face in Xinjing Coal Mine, structure divided into mine-pressure-influenced plastic zone, an elastic core pressure failure zone. The zone determined by using limit equilibrium theory, parabolic strength separation variable method. semi-inverse solution method, considering infiltration softening water. After that, combined with previous theoretical analysis engineering examples, value obtained. In addition, physical shape distribution measured ultrasonic detection technology. results are consistent field results. correctness model verified. Finally, rationality verified comparing classical models. research applied design which could provide basis located gob.
